The management of the Le Mans 24 Hours is made up of a race director, a race clerk and two deputy race clerks. Their job is to ensure the proper running of the race. When an incident occurs on the track, race management are the authorities that review the information relayed by radio from the track area manager (track marshal) and the available video footage. The race director then decides on the operation to perform. It can go from a simple yellow flag to a full halting of the race. However, it is up to the steward commission to decide on possible penalties. There are five members including a chairman who fulfills this position for all the World Endurance Championship (WEC) races. To communicate with teams, race management can write a short message at the bottom of the time screen or directly contact by radio team managers. But it is a one-way “street” or channel, the teams may not send messages to race management.
