Ever since the inaugural 24 Heures Motos in 1978, it has been tradition for the drivers to run across the track, jump on to their machines and speed off. When the starter drops the flag, sixty competitors set off on their 24-hour journey. The bikes hit top speed in the race at the end of this straight.
